  • To enhance the concept of youth monitoring over the Parliament's performance, Al Quds Center for Political Studies has completed a training program for dozens of young people.

Al Quds Center for Political Studies has completed a training program over three days titled: "How to Monitor the Performance of Your Representative: A Training Workshop for Youth," with the participation of dozens of young men and women from regions with lower political and electoral participation. Participants were divided into three groups. The training program, conducted by parliamentary affairs expert Walid Hasani, follows the election of the twentieth House of Representatives and aims to raise awareness among youth about the importance of monitoring the performance of Members of Parliament in general, and their representatives in particular, as it has a direct impact on the representative's effectiveness in fulfilling their legislative and oversight duties in the Parliament, as well as their relationship with the public of their electoral constituency
The training program included several topics, beginning with an explanation of the role of the House of Representatives in the political system and the functions of its members according to the constitution. Additionally, it addressed the nature of the relationship between the House of Representatives and civil society organizations and voters, as well as the best communication methods between the Parliament and the public. In this context, the trainer presented a series of examples that reflect the reciprocal relationship between Members of Parliament, both as individuals and through their work in parliamentary blocs and committees, with the public and the media. He emphasized the importance of monitoring and following up on the interaction of representatives and their effective engagement in committees and parliamentary blocs, while also explaining the functions of parliamentary committees and their formation processes.
The training program highlighted the concept and mechanisms of popular monitoring of Parliament's performance, emphasizing its importance and the areas subject to such monitoring. These areas include legislative and oversight sessions, individual representatives' behavior, their statements, and positions on various issues. It also focused on evaluating their oversight performance and the use of oversight tools, such as questions, inquiries, and motions of no confidence, in addition to the proposals submitted by representatives and their communication with the public.
Regarding the mechanisms and methodologies of monitoring, the training presented a series of examples and oversight models that the Al Quds Center for Political Studies had implemented in monitoring the performance of successive Parliaments as part of the Jordanian Parliament Monitor, one of the center's programs. The focus in this area was on the importance of networking with civil society organizations, monitoring representatives' performance in sessions, following their social media pages, and ensuring direct communication with them, and working on documenting the observations by preparing regular periodic reports. In this context, the emphasis was placed on the importance of collective action among youth in their electoral constituencies to divide roles and organize their work.
The training program concluded by dividing participants into working groups, where they engaged in practical exercises to evaluate the performance of representatives through examples developed to help them assess the representatives' understanding of their legislative and oversight roles. The trainees presented their findings to the working groups, and at the end of the program, they called for the formation of youth teams to monitor and evaluate the performance of representatives in their regions and electoral constituencies.
